Job Summary:
Evolution Expeditions is the premier kayak adventure tour company in the Las Vegas area. We are the largest, most experienced, and longest-running outfitter operating in Lake Mead National Recreation Area. We are looking for professional, mature, and fun guides to join our team. We operate a multi-sport program that includes kayaking and hiking.
We have one of the most comprehensive guide training programs in the area at about 2 weeks in duration. Guides will instruct and safely lead outdoor trips, assist in river launches, retrievals, and shuttles to/from Las Vegas hotels. Responsibilities will include entertaining incredible people from all over the world, exploring the outback of the Black Canyon on the Colorado River, loading and unloading equipment, cleaning and storing equipment, and keeping the work environment safe, clean, organized, and presentable.

Qualified applicants must also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to entertain guests. Must be willing to work in an outdoor environment, enjoy being active, and be able to lift 50+ lbs. Guides must demonstrate a solid work ethic, work well with others, and have a positive attitude. Qualified applicants must be able to make decisions quickly, work calmly, and perform in varying situations. We maintain professionalism and must dress according to your scope of work. Previous guiding experience is desired, but not required.
Essential Functions:
- Greet all guests promptly at scheduled tour times
- Outline the tour and timeline before beginning
- Provide a Safety briefing and demonstrate proper use of safety equipment
- Instruct guests on best practices for paddling kayaks
- Perform water rescue of guests (or anyone on the river) in the event of a tip over or emergency
- Determine if any guests have physical restrictions that should be considered
- Clearly and articulately provide information to guests in an engaging manner
- Engage and respond to guests in a positive, friendly, and supportive manner at all times.
- Act as a good steward of the natural world and follow Leave No Trace practices
- Remain calm, friendly, and enthusiastic at all times
- Provide meaningful interpretation to our guests on natural and cultural history topics pertinent to the trip, such as geology, history, flora, and fauna, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hoover Dam, Colorado River, Black Canyon, etc.
- Professionally represent Evolution Expeditions and its Mission, Vision and Values.
- Speak positively of the company, owners and region to guests and your co-workers
- Loading and unloading vans and trailers
- Driving equipment vans to and from kayak launch and warehouse (approved drivers only)
- Clean and maintain equipment (kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Legally allowed to work in the United States
- Significant work experience in customer service preferred
- Experience with public speaking is a plus
- Able to memorize and recite facts clearly and accurately
- Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
- Exceptional communication skills
- A positive, supportive team player
- Physically fit, able to work long hours in the field and lift and carry heavy objects (50+ pounds) over awkward terrain
- Willing and eager to interact positively with a range of age groups, from small children to seniors
- Ability to follow Evolution Expeditions’ drug-free and tobacco free workplace policy
- Cell phone with SMS capabilities (text)
- Must be at least 18 years old to Guide
- Must be at least 23 years old to Drive a company vehicle
- Clean driving record (approved drivers only)
- Must be able to attend 2 week training (flexible scheduling may be approved by manager)
- Be able to obtain a Wilderness First Aid Certification (Evolution Expeditions provides training for this certification)
- Must have a flexible schedule
- Must have reliable transportation
Uniforms/ Gear:
- Evolution Expeditions will provide guides with necessary paddling gear.
- Two Guide shirts will be provided to all full time Guides and are required at all times during work hours.
- Guides are required to maintain excellent hygiene and maintain a professional appearance.
